The Narrator's Visit

The invitation never mailed
left me curious about his appearance
that passive afternoon
while his declared intentions
compelled me to unlatch the door.

Promising mysterious objects
in unfolding amounts,
the silence of his repetition
made me think him
once traumatized by improvisation.

I admit soon regretting
my offer of tea and comfy chair.
