Locomotion

Desert novices

asleep in bags,

asleep in the arroyo,

deadwood afloat in dreams,

turned, by the visiting

water of distant rains,

distant flashes, soundless

thunder beyond the horizon:

far enough away

to spend its fury arriving,

but near enough

to move them fifty feet.
