The Age of Glass

Isn’t that when they began
to experiment with silence.
What was important was not sound,
but the waiting for sound; a past
eclipsed by a word, glowing
sphere of syllables, engulfed in turn
by a box of lustreless futures.
To sing one note whose invisible
heart was easily broken.
