  The Other

Allan Peterson

In one foot of water I found the owl face down
Not the silent mouse killer
but the plastic threat that that spun helpless
on its string in a boathouse
that frayed and fell hapless in the shallows
Now behold my two skies:
one of water with a tug plowing clouds
the other whose hidden

purpose is to instruct us on illusion
