  That Kind of Dreaming

Carolyn Adams

When you reach the stage in life
where hairstyles don't really matter
because you can’t see more than eyes
when you scan faces,
you wonder when fancy wrapping
became less important
and the color of his eyes pulled you in.
And you don't fold the sheets
under your mattress
because you like to throw them around
when you dream,
and you twist the radio dial impatiently
because you can't sleep most nights
for thinking about whatever it was
you missed out on,
and you've got to put music
to that kind of
dreaming.
